DESPOBLADO (2001)

Despoblado es el registro de una acción en donde la artista camina por el paseo peatonal mas denso y ocupado del centro de Santiago, personificando a distintos estereotipos de mujeres trabajadoras que transitan habitualmente por este lugar. El video está grabado desde dos un puntos fijos, emulando las cámaras de vigilancia que las autoridades locales han recientemente instalado en el centro de la capital para “combatir la delincuencia”. La mecánica de la acción es similar a un juego, en donde el participante debe, en un margen limitado de tiempo, realizar varias acciones distintas, corriendo de una lado a otro. Este video incorpora a los personajes de obras anteriores: secretaria, obrera, empleada doméstica, mujer de la limpieza.

En el montaje original, este video se proyecta en el muro de una sala oscura pegado a una esquina, junto a un espejo del mismo tamaño de la proyección, el cual, dispuesto en 90 grados, refleja el video al revés y al espectador.

“Despoblado / Uninhabited is the edited documentation of an action where the artist walks through the busiest street of downtown Santiago characterized as different working women. The video is shot from two different fixed places, imitating the view from a surveillance camera, recently installed by the local authorities in the growing "fight against crime". The live action has been structured as a game, where the artist has to change into as many different characters as possible in the least possible time, passing from one side of the camera to the other. This video includes characters played before for other actions: the secretary, the worker, the cleaning woman, the maid.

The original setup of this video installation is a 1,50mt x 0,90mt projection on to one corner of a dark room, where a mirror was installed opposite, at a 90 degree angle, reflecting the backwards image of the projection and the spectator.
